Singapore Airlines (SIA) will deploy the Airbus 380 superjumbo on selected flights to and from Shanghai from Oct 27. The A380 currently flies to popular destinations including Frankfurt, Paris, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne and Sydney.

This will give customers a better experience and increase the total number of weekly seats offered on the route by 12 per cent, SIA said on Wednesday morning.

The bigger aircraft will be used for five of 28 flights a week to Shanghai Pudong International Airport. The rest of the flights will be operated using SIA's Boeing 777 aircraft.

SIA and its regional arm SilkAir currently operate a total of 165 weekly flights to Hong Kong and 10 destinations in mainland China, including Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Xiamen.
