SIA picks Rolls Royce engine for B787-10X

Singapore Airlines has picked the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine to power its future Boeing 787-10X aircraft.

The 30 new planes are slated to be delivered from the 2018/19 financial year.

SIA said in an announcement on Friday that the engine was selected from among two competing models.

The airline has also signed a letter of intent with Rolls-Royce for engine maintenance, repair and overhaul services, as well as spare engine support.

SIA's decision follows a recent deal with Boeing for the purchase of the jets.

The order is conditional upon Boeing formally launching the B787-10X programme.
