SINGAPORE – Bring along a brolly when heading out in the late morning and afternoon for the next two weeks because short spurts of thundery showers are expected over parts of the island, the weatherman said.
There will be a few days when the downpour might turn heavy, the Meteorological Service Singapore said in a statement on June 18.
The Met Service added that there will be one or two mornings when widespread thundery showers are likely to bring along gusty winds – a feature of the Sumatra squalls.
The total rainfall for the second half of June is forecast to be near average over most parts of the island.
Daily maximum temperatures are expected to range between 33 deg C and 34 deg C on most days. On a few days, temperatures are predicted to go a little higher than 34 deg C.
A few nights are expected to be warm and humid and temperatures could stay above 28 deg C, particularly over the southern and eastern coastal areas.
For most of the first two weeks of June, there were showers with thunder, in the late morning and afternoon, over parts of the island.
During this period, about half the island recorded above average rainfall. In the Kranji area, rainfall was 200 per cent above average while in Sentosa, rainfall was 53 per cent below average.
The daily maximum temperature was above 33 deg C on most days, and the highest temperature of 35.5 deg C was recorded in Admiralty on June 11.
