The victim of Singapore's only kidnapping case in more than a decade is recovering well, her son Lim Hock Chee said on Saturday. This despite foregoing a scheduled doctor's appointment the previous day.

Mr Lim is the chief executive of supermarket chain Sheng Siong. His mother, Madam Ng Lye Poh, was kidnapped on Wednesday by two men along Hougang Avenue 2 but was subsequently freed unhurt after Mr Lim paid a $2 million ransom.

Madam Ng was spotted walking around her home in Jalan Arif, and at one point offered incense at an altar facing the main gate. "Our family's been monitoring her condition, and she's doing all right," said Mr Lim, who spoke to reporters outside the home.

He added that Madam Ng's other children had taken turns visiting her, but he did not want her to recount her ordeal to them as he hoped she could quickly get over the incident. "She's already 79 years old, we don't want to keep reminding her of what happened."

The two suspects, odd-job labourer Lee Sze Yong, 41, and his accomplice, credit card promoter Heng Chen Boon, 50, were charged in court on Friday under the Kidnapping Act and remanded in police custody for further investigations.

They are believed to be lovers who have been living together for more than 10 years with Lee's mother in an Hougang flat. Police arrested them separately on Thursday and the ransom was recovered in full at Sembawang Park.
