First, he stole from a friend who took him in when he had nowhere to stay. Ridzuwan Jamil, 33, then struck twice at Internet cafes until he was nabbed in January.
Out of bail, he stole the belongings of four people exercising in stadia.
On Wednesday, the unemployed man was jailed for 11/2 years. He had pleaded guilty last week.
A district court then heard that Ms Rohaiza Abdullah, 33, had invited him to stay at her Marine Crescent flat because he had no where else to go. On Sept 15, she left for Batam in Indonesia. Upon her return two days later, the unemployed woman discovered that a $1,600 laptop and a 32-inch television set valued at $350 were missing. So was Ridzuwan.
Then on Jan 10, he filched a cell phone valued at $120 from a teenager at am Internet cafe in Aljunied Road. About two weeks later, he struck at another Internet cafe in Sims Avenue at 4am and pocketed a $850 cell phone that had been left unattended on a table.
He sold it off immediately to a mobile phone shop in Geylang for $450 and returned to the cafe two hours later. The victim recognised him and he was arrested.
While out on bail in March, Ridzuwan stole the belongings of those exercising in the stadia in Yio Chu Kang Road and Hougang. His loot came up to nearly $4,000 in cash, cameras and cell phones.
