A BREAKDOWN at the train station in VivoCity shopping mall caused Sentosa's monorail system to grind to a halt for nearly two hours yesterday evening.
The stoppage occurred shortly after 7pm, and is understood to have been caused by a train which lost power at the mall.
It left some passengers stuck on the causeway between Sentosa and the mainland for about 25 minutes.
Many others, such as tourist Amanda Lo from Hong Kong, were left stranded at various stations. She complained that the monorail operator did not announce the delay promptly.
For about 15 minutes, her train did not budge and train doors also did not close, even though it was filled to capacity.
"There were a few announcements during that time that said the train would be making a brief stop at the station, but there was no mention of the delay," said the 25-year- old.
Train services resumed partially at 8.50pm, after a rescue train pulled the malfunctioned one out of VivoCity and to the train depot in Sentosa.
A Sentosa staff member told The Straits Times that the line was operating at half-capacity after the resumption - with two trains instead of four - so there was a slightly longer wait of up to seven minutes between trains.
The last service disruption occurred in October 2009.
