the 1983 Sentosa cable car tragedy,

the popular tourist attraction was closed for about seven months for repairs before it reopened to visitors.

There were several instances of people being stranded when cable cars broke down in 1977 and 1979, but the 1983 tragedy was the first involving casualties since the cable car system opened in February 1974.
