Mr Lionel Yee Woon Chin has been sworn in as Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court. He will serve for a year with effect from today.
The sworn-in ceremony was held at the Istana.
Mr Yee , 46, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Law degree from the University of Cambridge in 1988 on a Public Service Commission Overseas Merit Scholarship.
He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1993. In 1999, he obtained a Master of Laws (International Legal Studies) degree from New York University on a Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship.
He started his legal career as a State Counsel in the Civil Division of the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), and went on to hold positions in the International Affairs Division and Criminal Justice Division of the AGC, the Ministry of Law, and Singapore's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
He was the Director-General of the International Affairs Division of the AGC from July 2008 to May last year.
He also led the AGC team that represented the State at the Committee of Inquiry hearings into the disruption of MRT train services in December 2011.
He was appointed Senior Counsel in January.
