Mr Seah Kian Peng, chief executive of the NTUC FairPrice Co-operative, has been re-elected for a new four-year term to the global Board of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA).

The Singapore National Co-operative Federation (SNCF) which made the announcement on Wednesday said that Mr Seah is one of 15 newly-elected members of the ICA Board who were elected on Nov 4 during this year's ICA General Assembly.

The ICA is an independent, non-governmental organisation that unites, represents and serves co-operatives worldwide.

He is among three elected members from Asia with the two others coming from Japan and Korea and will serve the term until 2017.

Mr Seah, who is a former chairman and trustee of the SNCF, was the first and only Singaporean to be elected to the ICA board in 2005. He was instrumental in the successful Singapore bid and eventual hosting of the ICA General Assembly in 2007.

"Besides pushing for greater support from governments globally to position co-operatives as a viable business proposition, I hope to help the ICA Board create strong brands and sustainable business practices for co-operatives worldwide and advocate stronger corporate social responsibility practices amongst various stakeholders," said Mr Seah.

Mr Seah was the chairman of the SNCF from 2002 to 2008 and has been an active leader on global co-operative movement.
