SINGAPORE - A fire broke out on Thursday afternoon at a Housing Board flat in Tampines Street 43.

Residents in the area reported seeing black smoke coming from an 11th floor unit just after 1pm.

The blaze, which began in a bedroom in the unit, was extinguished by about 1.45pm.

"We received a call at 1.24pm of a fire... and despatched two fire engines, one red rhino, ambulance and support vehicle," an SCDF spokesman said.

"Upon arrival, the unit was locked, so SCDF personnel gained entry into the unit using breaking tools. The fire involved contents in one of the bedrooms and was extinguished using one water jet."

There were no occupants in the flat at the time of the fire and no one was injured.

Some residents living on the ninth to 13th floors had to be evacuated.
