SINGAPORE – A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer involved in a road collision will remain hospitalised for further observation.

This follows an accident that saw a collision between a fire engine and a heavy vehicle in Sungei Kadut Street on Jan 23.

The four SCDF officers on board the fire engine

at the time were taken to Woodlands Health Campus and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

In an update, an SCDF spokesman said that one of the officers has been discharged and given three days of hospitalisation leave.

A third officer, who needed surgery for a fractured nose, and the fourth officer, who had a swollen leg, are waiting to be discharged, the spokesman told The Straits Times.

The four officers are aged between 21 and 28.

Said the spokesman: “SCDF will continue to monitor their recovery and well-being, and provide our fullest support to the officers and their families during this time.”

A video uploaded to the Singapore Roads Accident.com Facebook page on the day of the accident showed the aftermath of the head-on collision between the fire engine and a heavy vehicle.

SCDF had earlier said one of the officers was stuck in the front cabin and had to be freed using hydraulic rescue equipment after the accident occurred at around 1.45pm.

All four officers were conscious when taken to hospital.

The fire engine was returning to Sungei Kadut Fire Post after attending to a false alarm in the area.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The police are also looking into a separate accident which happened on the same day, involving a car and a police van.

It happened at 7.45pm at the junction of Woodlands Avenue 3 and Woodlands Centre Road.

A 32-year-old woman was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. She is assisting with investigations.
