SINGAPORE – A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) regular has died, after being found unconscious at Hendon Camp swimming pool on the morning of Aug 9.

He was found at 7.15am and appeared to have been training on his own, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said in a statement.

The ministry added that cardiopulmonary resuscitation and an automated external defibrillator were administered immediately.

The Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were activated, and the serviceman was taken to Changi General Hospital in an SCDF ambulance.

Attempts to resuscitate him continued en route, as well as upon arrival at the hospital.

However, he was pronounced dead at about 7.45am.

“The Ministry of Defence and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late serviceman,” Mindef said.

“We are also rendering assistance to the family during this time of grief.”

Hendon Camp is located in Changi and is known as the base of SAF’s elite fighting force, the commandos.
