SINGAPORE -Fifty pioneers from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) have written a book about their experience taking part in last year's Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Launched on Saturday (July 23), the book titled, 50 SAF Pioneers' Nostalgic March - 9 August 2015, looks back at their participation in the Vintage Parade segment of last year's National Day Parade, which re-enacted the street parades of the 1970s.

The 212-page book also captures key moments of the veterans' careers from decades ago, back when the SAF had few resources.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean was the guest of honour at the book launch at the Temasek Club on Saturday (July 23) evening.

At the dinner event, some of the pioneers were also appointed as Commitment to Defence Ambassadors. In this role, they will share their stories of historical events and past military operations with current servicemen and students.

Through sponsors' donations and sales of tables at the book launch dinner, the pioneers raised $100,000 for the SAF Care Fund, which gives additional support to servicemen who have been severely disabled due to military service. The Ministry of Defence will match this amount dollar-for-dollar.

The commemorative book is not for sale to the general public, but copies will be given to sponsors, schools, the SAF and its veterans.
