SINGAPORE - A runaway tyre from a trailer along West Coast Highway hit two cars on Thursday (June 1) morning.

A car driver was taken to the National University Hospital with minor injuries. The Straits Times understands that his injuries were inflicted by his airbag, which deployed when the tyre hit his vehicle.

The police told ST that they were alerted at 7.57am to the accident involving a trailer and two cars along West Coast Highway towards Jalan Buroh.

"A 27-year-old male car driver was taken conscious to NUH. Police investigations are ongoing."

The Singapore Civil Defence Force told ST that it responded to a medical incident along the highway at 8am.

Two videos posted on Facebook group Beh Chia Lor - Singapore Road, show what happened from two perspectives.

One video credited to Joe Lim shows a tyre appearing suddenly from the other side of the road and making impact with his vehicle.

Another video credited to Raymond Ung shows the tyre rolling across to the road opposite.

ST understands that the man who was taken to hospital has since been discharged.
