More than 100 viewers finally got to watch Tamil blockbuster Veeram on Friday after Rex Cinemas abruptly cancelled the premiere on Thursday evening because the theatre could not gain permission to screen the film in time.
The screenings at 11.45am and 12pm on Friday went ahead after the cinema finally received the password from the distributor to unlock the downloaded movie at about 2.30am. Some of the viewers were among those who had to leave disappointed after Thursday's screening was called off. The affected patrons were allowed to exchange their tickets for one of three screenings on Friday.
The police were called in on Thursday night after some people in the crowd apparently began shouting at cinema staff and refused to leave. Some had queued for more than nine hours for tickets to the movie starring popular actor Ajith Kumar.
The cinema has eight more screenings in two halls on Friday: two at 3pm, and one at 6pm, 6.15pm, 9pm, 9.30pm, 12am and 12.30am.
