SINGAPORE - Retiree Martin Gregory always makes it a point to hold on to the handrail when using the escalators at MRT stations.

The 73-year-old Bishan resident, who is of Indian-Chinese heritage, noticed that there have been broadcasts in the Hokkien and Cantonese dialects lately, reminding commuters to hold on to the rail for their safety.
