Red Cross Youth celebrates 60th anniversary

More than 450 other past and present Red Cross Youth members celebrated their group's 60th anniversary with a sit-down dinner at Ban Heng Pavilion Restaurant at HarbourFront.

Established in 1952 as the Junior Red Cross, the group now has more than 5,000 members. They consist of students in uniformed groups at the primary and secondary levels, student volunteers at the post-secondary levels, and volunteers.

Guest of honour Ms Sim Ann, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Communications and Information and Education, described the Red Cross Youth and its activities as "powerful learning opportunities for our students".

Director of the Red Cross Youth, Mr Ling Khoon Chow, noted that even as times changed their mission remained steadfast. "Many things have changed in 60 years, but the one thing that has remained constant through all this time is that we are still serving humanity," he said.
