Record number of Sembawang residents receive Edusave awards

Over the past weekend, 2,033 students living in the Sembawang constituency received Edusave awards - a record number for the division.

The increase is due to more of the awards being given out at the constituency levels instead of at the schools.

In total, five types of awards were given out. The Edusave Merit Bursary, Edusave Scholarship (ES), Good Progress Award (GPA), Edusave Awards for Achievement, Good Leadership & Service (Eagles) and the Edusave Character Award (Echa).

Each recipient receives a one-time amount of $100 to $500 depending on award type and school level.

For instance, the EMB is awarded to the top 25 per cent of academic performers per school per level. It also has a household income ceiling criteria of $5,000 a month or a per capita income ceiling of $1,250 a month - the only award of the five that considers income levels.

Every year, there at least 30,000 recipients of Edusave awards.
