A record number of more than 2,000 individuals donated online via Community Chest to support its beneficiaries, such as people with disabilities and families in need, last year. The figure is an increase of 33 per cent from the 1,500 online donors in 2009.
In conjunction with Father's Day this month, the fund raising division of the National Council of Social Services (NCSS) has also introduced an option to allow members of the public to dedicate online donations to their fathers.
An individual can make an online donation in their father's name, and the Community Chest will send an e-card to the father, with a personalised message from the donor.
In June last year, Community Chest started to provide donors with the option of designating their donations to the charities of their choice. About 11 per cent of donors have exercised the option, and most choose to designate their funds to helping children with special needs and youths-at-risk.
