Ms Aericurl Chng, 23, is her own boss at her dessert stall at Hougang's Ci Yuan hawker centre, serving up ice kacang and chendol.

She comes from an entrepreneurship programme where young hawker hopefuls are trained to start their own businesses.

The rookies are paid $3,000 a month during a two-month training stint where, among other things, retiring hawker veterans teach them their recipes, so that the hawker tradition can be preserved.
