Grassroots leaders, together with about 50 residents of the Spanish Village, Gallop Gables and Sommerville Grandeur condominiums in the Farrer Road area, took part in an interactive Dengue Prevention Workshop on Wednesday.

It was a collaborative effort between the Tanglin Neighbourhood Committee (NC) and the National Environmental Agency (NEA). Through the workshop, residents of the above private estates learned about the dengue situation and how to play their part in the national fight against dengue. The workshop also aimed to foster social cohesion and community bonding, which are critical to stop the chain of dengue transmission.

Grassroots adviser Ms Indranee Rajah was present at the event. She said that it was important to make a community effort to fight dengue because "dengue is one of those things where the source arises in the community; it is not a single source because mosquitoes breed everywhere". She added that it is not something that can be done only by public agencies, but everyone.

Some 10 people in the Farrer Road cluster area have been affected. As of yesterday, the number of reported dengue cases since the start of the year stands at 8,001.
