SINGAPORE - A private bus caught fire along a street in Yishun on Thursday (Sept 15), forcing five passengers on board to evacuate.

No injuries were reported.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire, which involved the bus' engine compartment, at 4.35pm at Yishun Street 11.

It dispatched a fire engine, a red rhino and two fire bikes to the scene, and the fire was extinguished using two water jets.

A video posted on Facebook by user TJ La Bang showed plumes of thick smoke billowing from the back of the bus, which had stopped at a bus stop.

SCDF firefighters were also seen fighting the flames with a water jet.

Another Facebook user, Lay Hoon Ho, said the bus was from Johor Baru.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
