Primary One registration to start on July 4; three new schools will start taking in pupils

The registration of children for admission to Primary One (P1) classes next year will start on July 4 and last till Aug 30.

Children born between Jan 2, 2007 and Jan 1, 2008 (both dates inclusive) are eligible to register.

All primary schools will open for registration from 8am to 11am and from 2.30pm to 4.30pm from Mondays to Fridays during the registration period.

The cohort size of 2014 is comparable to that of 2013 and there will be sufficient school places for all eligible P1 pupils, said the Ministry of Education in a press release on Friday.

Only children who are Singapore citizens or permanent residents are eligible to register for admission under Phases 1 to 2C Supplementary. If balloting is necessary in specific phases in a school, citizens will be given absolute priority over permanent residents. Children who are neither Singapore citizens or permanent residents can only register under Phase 3.

This year, the ministry will introduce online registration in 80 schools during Phase 2C and 2C Supplementary. The two phases are for children without siblings in the school or links to the school through their parents.

There will be three new primary schools that will be taking in students from next year. They are Northoaks Primary in Sembawang, Alexandra Primary in Bukit Merah, and West Spring Primary in Bukit Panjang. They will each offer up to 210 Primary 1 places.

In addition, five schools - Ai Tong, Anderson, Tao Nan, Raffles Girls' and South View - will be relocating to their temporary holding sites next year while their school buildings are being rebuilt. Priority, however, will still be given to children who live near the permanent sites of the schools.
