President Tony Tan appoints 74 Justices of Peace

Seventy-four Justices of the Peace (JPs) were appointed by President Tony Tan Keng Yam in a ceremony held at the Istana on Wednesday. The appointments included 50 re-appointments and 24 new appointments.

The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and invited guests including Member of Parliament (Tampines) Mr Baey Yam Keng.

Mr Moiz Tyebally, 62, who is a senior associate with Harry Elias Partnership LLP, said of his re-appointment: "It's a validation of the work I'm doing and I'm very thankful that I have been re-appointed."

The role of a Justice of Peace includes being Visiting Justices to prisons, mediators in the Subordinate Courts or marriage solemnisers in the Registry of Marriages.
