SINGAPORE – President Tharman Shanmugaratnam is set to make a working visit to Washington and New York later in April.
Mr Tharman, who will be in the US from April 21 to April 25, will co-chair a meeting of the World Bank Group’s High-Level Advisory Council on Jobs. He will also speak at a World Bank event on job creation.
The President will also meet UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, members of the diplomatic community, and leaders from the financial sector and think-tanks. He will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the President’s Office.
The High-Level Advisory Council on Jobs was launched on Aug 12, 2024, to address the looming jobs crisis in the Global South. The council is co-chaired by Mr Tharman and former president of the Republic of Chile Michelle Bachelet.
