President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will make official visits to Italy and Estonia, after meeting Pope Francis.

SINGAPORE - President Tharman Shanmugaratnam will visit Italy and Estonia from June 24 to 26, after meeting Pope Francis on June 22.
He is making the official visits at the respective invitations of Italian President Sergio Mattarella and Estonian President Alar Karis.
Prior to his official visits, Mr Tharman will be on a working visit in Rome for a Group of Thirty (G-30) plenary hosted by the Banca d’Italia, and will co-chair a meeting of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water from June 20 to 23.
In Rome, he will have a private audience with Pope Francis. He will also be hosted to breakfast in Helsinki by Finnish President Alexander Stubb while in transit between Italy and Estonia.
Mr Tharman will be accompanied on his trip by his spouse, Ms Jane Ittogi, as well as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Maliki Osman, Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan, and MPs Sitoh Yih Pin and Sharael Taha.
During his visit in Italy, he will receive a ceremonial welcome and meet Mr Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
In Estonia, he will meet Mr Karis, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Mr Lauri Hussar, who is president of the Riigikogu, the Parliament of Estonia. It will be the first visit by a Singaporean president to Estonia.
Mr Tharman will be hosted to an official banquet by Mr Karis. He will also meet Estonian enterprises involved in sustainability initiatives.
During Mr Tharman’s absence, Council of Presidential Advisers chairman Eddie Teo and Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng will exercise the functions of the Office of the President from June 20 to 25, and June 26 to 27, respectively.
