President Tan to visit Brunei Darussalam

Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam will make a state visit to Brunei Darussalam from Tuesday to Thursday.

This is President Tan's first state visit to Brunei, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) says in a statement.

President Tan and Mrs Mary Tan will receive a ceremonial welcome at Istana Nurul Iman, according to the statement. They will have a joint audience with Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his wife Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, and be hosted to a state banquet.

President Tan will also meet with senior members of the Bruneian royal family and Cabinet, including Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, says MFA.

President Tan will visit the Muara Naval Base and a Youth Centre (Pusat Belia). He will also attend a lunch for Bruneian Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Permanent Secretaries who have previously studied in Singapore. In addition, he will meet with overseas Singaporeans based in Brunei at a dinner reception, and visit SAF personnel and their families in Brunei.

President Tan will be accompanied by Minister for Health Gan Kim Yong, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower, Mr Hawazi Daipi, as well as Members of Parliament Mr Alex Yam Ziming and Mr Ong Teng Koon.
