Dancers from the Rhythms Aesthetic Society performing for President Halimah Yacob yesterday. She was treated to both traditional North and South Indian dances. The President and her husband, Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee, were on a visit to Little India, in her first community event there since being sworn in as head of state last Thursday. Little India was decked out in lights ahead of Deepavali next month, and thick crowds formed as Madam Halimah walked down Campbell Lane to greet stallholders and members of the public. Many surged forward for a wefie with Singapore's eighth president. Later, Madam Halimah visited the Indian Heritage Centre, where she was given tokens of appreciation by the Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association and the centre.
