Post offices recognised for being eco-friendly workplaces

The Singapore Environment Council has given all post offices a green thumbs up for putting in place environmentally-friendly habits.

The national postal service provider SingPost's postal outlets were awarded the Eco-Post Office Label following audits and assessments of the company's environment policy, water and energy consumption, waste management and recycling practices, said a statement on Wednesday.

SingPost's array of workplace green initiatives include turning up air-conditioning temperature in staff areas by one degree, sending cartridges from printers for recycling, and using motion sensors for toilet lights.

The company's vehicle emission reduction, energry conservation, and waste management programmes also encompass some 350 bicycle mail service routes, the staggering of escalators' shut-down schedule, and the setting up of recycling corners. Some 120 postman also deliver mail on foot.
