It was a challenging time for the Muslim community in Singapore in 2003 when Mr Alami Musa became president of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis).

It was two years after the Sept 11 attacks in the United States, and the arrest in Singapore of members of the clandestine Jemaah Islamiah regional terror network.
