Budget 2021: Cinema operator hopes pivot to new businesses will help keep staff employed

SINGAPORE - Mr Sherman Ng, chief executive of Salt Media & Entertainment, will likely have to close his cinema business after next month if he cannot negotiate further rental relief with his landlord.

With virtually no revenue as he is not allowed to take corporate bookings - these formed 60 per cent of the business before the pandemic - and with the Jobs Support Scheme (JSS) wage subsidies ending soon, it would not be sustainable, he told Insight.
