Police warn public of e-mail impersonation scam

If you get an e-mail from sg_police@outlook.com, it is the work of scammers and not the Singapore Police Force.

In a news release on Thursday, the police said it is aware that fraudulent e-mail has been sent from that address, claiming recipients had won a $200,000 package from an airline company. E-mails were signed off with the name of a senior police officer.

Recipients were also asked to contact staff at a local bank and to provide personal details before their winnings could be transferred to them.

Police advise anyone receiving such e-mails not to remit or transfer any money, or give out particulars or bank account details. They should instead call the police immediately on their hotline at 1800-2550000 or 999 to report the case.
