The police have advised the public to remain vigilant as they go about shopping, as large crowds are expected at the Geylang Serai Hari Raya Bazaar, especially during the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Aug 7.

Some tips they gave included not being distracted by strangers creating a commotion or accidentally bumping or spilling something; not to carry large amounts of cash; not to adorn children with excessive gold jewellery as they are easy targets for potential criminals; not to place wallets in the back pocket and to sling any handbag in front.

They also advised the public to be alert to their surroundings, and to move away if someone stands or sits exceptionally close, to minimise the chances of being molested.

Heavy vehicular traffic is also expected along Changi Road and Sims Ave from 6pm on Aug 7 to 4am the next day. Motorists are advised to avoid the affected roads, make alternative travel arrangements and drive with caution, the police said.

Auxiliary police officers will be deployed at all affected road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists. Illegal parking along the main and arterial roads will be strictly enforced. Vehicles found parking indiscriminately or causing obstruction will be towed away.
