Five teenage boys, aged 16 to 19, suspected for stealing motorcycles in two separate incidents have been arrested by the police.
In the first case, a motorcycle was reported to be stolen on Feb 9 from a multi-storey carpark near Hougang Street 91. It was later found in the same carpark on its side.
Using police cameras installed in the area, police were able to get images of four suspects. They were arrested on Thursday near the crime scene. Investigations revealed that the four teens could be involved in at least two other motor vehicle theft cases.
In the second case, a motorcycle was reported to be stolen near Hougang Avenue 9 on Feb 15. It was spotted on Thursday by police near Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5. The two riders on the bike tried to escape but were eventually stopped and arrested.
The four suspects in the first case and a rider in the second one will be charged in court on Saturday. Police are investigating the other rider from the second case.
The penalty for stealing motor vehicles is a jail term of up to seven years and a fine. An offender's driving licence can also be disqualified, if convicted.
