SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Saturday attended a bursary award ceremony for over 500 students living in his Teck Ghee ward in Ang Mo Kio GRC - his first public event for 2015 since his constituency's New Year countdown.

In a short speech at Townsville Primary School in Ang Mo Kio, Mr Lee thanked donors who had raised $165,000 to help the needy students.

He also urged the students to continue their hard work in school, saying: "If you can do well, we will be happy for you, and you can make a contribution to Singapore."

These bursaries, he said, will help students lighten their financial burden so they will "be able to study and (do their) best, and not have to worry about money being a problem".

After the ceremony ended, Mr Lee mingled with students and their parents in the school canteen, moving from table to table to congratulate them.
