Former head of Civil Service Peter Ho leads the list of public servants and volunteers being honoured in this year's National Day Awards.
Mr Ho, who turns 62 today, is the only recipient of the Distinguished Service Order this year. He led the Civil Service from 2005 until his retirement in 2010, and oversaw efforts to get agencies to work closer together to tackle new challenges in security and other areas.
A total of 3,959 individuals received National Day honours this year. Four persons were awarded the Meritorious Service Medal: former National Environment Agency chair Chew Gek Khim, Council of Presidential Advisers member and retired Supreme Court judge Goh Joon Seng, pioneer artist Lim Tze Peng and veteran scientist Leo Tan.
