Pedestrian dies after motorbike accident; rider arrested

A 47-year-old pedestrian who was allegedly hit by a motorcycle in Penjuru Road last week died in hospital at the weekend.

The accident occurred at 6.15am last Wednesday, at the junction of Penjuru Road and Teban Gardens Crescent.

The police said the man, Mr Soh Kian Hoon, was taken unconscious to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, where he subsequently died. The motorcyclist, a 40-year-old man, was arrested in relation to the case.

After the accident, the victim's family members asked for eyewitnesses to come forward. His niece Cheryl Ng posted on Facebook last Friday, urging eyewitnesses or those with dashboard camera footage of the incident to come forward.

"The accident happened on May 16 between 6am and 6.30am along Penjuru Road, in front of Penjuru Foodcourt at 54 Teban Gardens Road," she wrote. "My uncle was knocked down by a motorbike while crossing the road and is currently in a serious coma."

She said the case was being investigated, and the family sought the truth.

At 12.53pm on Sunday, the victim's sister Joycelyn Soh said on Facebook that her brother had died. She wrote that with "unbearable sadness", she saw him being taken into the operating theatre a day earlier. "You are our hero, we will always remember you," she added.

Investigations are ongoing.
