SINGAPORE - When Ms Tan Xing En started losing her eyesight at about three years old, her mother was worried she would not be able to cope with going to a mainstream primary school.

She was later diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disorder of the eye that causes loss of vision.
