Last week, my husband sketched out for her his version of the food cycle.

A tree drops its fruit. A fly feasts on it, before being eaten up by a spider. A bird gobbles up the spider, and dies, presumably of natural causes. The dead bird decomposes, and the tree draws strength from the fertilised soil.
