When Singapore announced the establishment of Yale-NUS College 10 years ago, a sizeable number of faculty members and students at the Ivy League institution in New Haven, Connecticut, criticised the plan.
In the interviews I did with several members of the Yale faculty in New Haven in 2012, many cited concerns about Singapore's laws on freedom of assembly and expression, which they saw as being critical to providing a liberal arts education.
