With Primary 1 registration in full swing, The Straits Times' senior education correspondent Sandra Davie answers parents' queries on online registration for schools.
Question: What requirements must I meet to use online registration for my son who is entering Primary 1 next year?
Answer: Your child must be eligible for registration in Phase 2C or Phase 2C Supplementary. Your school of choice is must also be one of the participating 80 primary schools. Both you and your wife must have a valid SingPass and your child's birth must have been registered in Singapore.
Question: What happens if I register my son in one school but I change my mind and want to register him at another school? Is it possible to go back online and amend it?
Answer: No. You are not allowed to amend your choice of school after you have submitted your registration online. To re-register for another school, you have to withdraw your registration submitted earlier. After the withdrawal is completed online, re-registration has to be done at your new school of choice.
Question: How will I know the outcome of my online registration?
Answer: You will be notified of the result of your registration by post, after the school has conducted balloting (if required) and before the next phase starts. You should check with the school if you do not receive any notification.
Those residing overseas need to check with the school or the Education Ministry once the results for that phase are out.
