The body of a 74-year-old Singaporean man who died in the Malaysian town of Muar in Johor last Friday (Aug 14) cannot be returned home as his family members have yet to be found.

Yap Chwee Kim allegedly died of lung infection at around 11am, according to a Facebook plea by user Katherine Cheng on Friday night.

A photo of Mr Yap's passport and a Certificate of Cause of Death were also in the post, which has been shared more than 8,700 times.

"We need the family members to contact us in order to apply (for) the death certificate, claim the body and bring this uncle back to Singapore," she wrote.

Ms Cheng added that Mr Yap was warded in the hospital for more than a week prior to his death, and listed the Mandarin name of a hotel he had been staying.

A comment by Ms Cheng on her own post at 1.06pm suggested that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been alerted.
