Home Front: One year on, Design Orchard deserves more time to blossom

A local retail showcase smack in the middle of Orchard Road is getting a new batch of home-grown brands, after drawing reasonable crowds and sales. But more can be done to give local design a boost.

Situated in the middle of Orchard Road, in between 313@Somerset and Robinsons The Heeren, is a more subdued building that passers-by might overlook.

Despite large banners broadcasting that behind the building's glass walls is a showcase of local brands, the 2½-storey Design Orchard has a subtle presence compared with the larger, glittering shopping complexes around it.
