Even as a young engineer in the 1980s, Dr Goh Eng Lim saw how his field was changing. Engineers were no longer drawing by hand the items they needed built but instead, designing them on a computer.

The computer could then send these technical drawings straight to a machine to be produced. "I saw how engineering was being digitalised," said Dr Goh, now 58.
