Customers at NTUC FairPrice wil be able to use the new 50-cent coins for supermarket trolleys when the third series of coins are put into circulation.

The supermarket chain in a statement on Thursday added that customers can continue to use the second series $1 coins for these trolleys, as both coins are the same dimensions.

It added that the supermarket chain did not have to change the existing mechanism on its fleet of 8,000 trolleys.

An NTUC spokesman said that it wanted to make this transition as convenient as possible as trolleys were loaned out for the convenience of customers.
