The police did not need to take any action against anyone or business in Little India for breaching the alcohol ban in the area as of 10pm on Saturday.

In a statement issued at 11.20pm, the police said: "There were no incidents reported in Little India. There were also no breaches of the alcohol ban detected and no one was caught for consuming alcohol in the public places in Little India."

The weekend ban on the sale and public consumption of alcohol was put in place by the authorities as a cooling measure in the wake of the riot last Sunday in the Indian ethnic enclave.

Senior Minister of State for Home and Foreign Affairs Masagos Zulkifli visited the area earlier to observe how the situation at Little India was, visiting businesses and talking to police who were keeping watch.

The 30-minute visit at 9pm saw Mr Masagos take a tour of businesses along Kerbau Road, Serangoon Road and Buffalo Road. He also spoke to the proprietor of Gandhi Restaurant at Race Course Road, a provision shop staff, and a Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association representative on business plans for the area.

At the end of his visit, he thanked police and Special Operations Command officers for keeping the peace in the area and said their presence was appreciated.
