SINGAPORE - Amid a spike in home renovation complaints, contractors here said they have been trying to meet contractual obligations in a climate of rising material costs and a deep manpower shortage.

Four contractors and interior designers told The Straits Times they have been caught between trying to appease customers and tackling the tough business environment, while home owners said they have had to contend with long delays and shoddy workmanship.
