Ng Eng Hen to attend Asean Defence Ministers' Meeting in Philippines

SINGAPORE - Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen will be in the Philippines from Sunday (Oct 22) to Tuesday to attend the 11th Asean Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and other associated events, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said on Friday.

On Monday, Dr Ng will attend the ADMM in Clark, and a special ADMM meeting on countering violent extremism, radicalisation and terrorism, Mindef said. He will also attend three informal meetings - the Asean-China Defence Ministers' Informal Meeting, the Asean-Japan Defence Ministers' Informal Meeting, and the Asean-US Defence Ministers' Informal Meeting.

On Tuesday, Dr Ng will participate in the ADMM chairmanship handover ceremony where Singapore will officially take over as the ADMM and ADMM-Plus Chair from the Philippines. Dr Ng will also attend the 4th ADMM-Plus.

The ADMM-Plus is a forum for defence ministers and militaries of all 10 Asean nations and eight key partners - Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the United States.

Dr Ng will be accompanied by Permanent Secretary for Defence Chan Yeng Kit and Mindef and SAF officials, Mindef said.
