The next five Ministry of Education (MOE) kindergartens will open next year, Education Minister Heng Swee Keat said on Tuesday.

Mr Heng, who was visiting a kindergarten at a void deck in Tampines Street 45, added that details will be made known in two months.

The locations are being finalised, and they will be sited in the heartlands. The kindergarten Mr Heng visited is one of the first five new kindergartens set up by the MOE in a move to raise pre-school standards in Singapore.

The centre has 31 children enrolled across its morning and afternoon sessions, four teachers and one centre head. Children have an hour of mother tongue lessons every day and 40 minutes of English lessons. Children at the centre can enjoy a range of facilities like a music and movement room, library, a shared space which serves as a supermarket and an art corner. Parents can also borrow resources like books and games from the centre to use with their children at home.
