Newly upgraded mosque in Admiralty opens doors to worshippers

The newly upgraded An-Nur Mosque in Admiralty was officially opened by Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim on Friday.

It will now be able to hold a total of 6,000 worshippers, up from 3,500 previously.

The mosque, built in 1980, has been under major upgrading works since January 2011. To cater to the needs of a large elderly population in Woodlands and Admiralty, ramps, a lift and handicap toilets were added as part of $7.2 million upgrading works. More classrooms, two multi-purpose halls and a library have also been added for community and family-based activities to be held.

Singapore's mufti Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram led prayers at the mosque on Friday.
